GST engine, in every plan

GST billing that is right on the first quotation.

Place-of-supply rules, HSN and SAC codes on every line, CGST and SGST or IGST decided by where the supply actually happens — and a separate GSTIN for every branch that holds one.

  • CGST · SGST · IGST · UTGST · cess
  • HSN and SAC per line
  • Exact to the paisa
In short

SimplCRM applies GST to quotations automatically. It reads the supplying branch’s state and the customer’s place of supply, charges CGST and SGST when they match and IGST when they do not, zero-rates SEZ and export supplies, carries HSN or SAC codes per line, and calculates to the paisa in the database. Every plan includes it; it is not an add-on.

How the tax is worked out

Four rules, applied on every line, every time, without anyone having to remember them.

Which GSTIN issues the document?

The one belonging to the branch making the supply. A business registered in Maharashtra and Karnataka holds two GSTINs, and a quotation raised by the Pune office carries the Maharashtra registration. There is no company-wide default to override, because a default is what gets it wrong.

What decides CGST and SGST versus IGST?

The place of supply against the supplier’s state. Same state, and the tax splits into CGST and SGST at half the rate each. Different states, and the whole rate is charged as IGST. In a union territory without a legislature it is CGST and UTGST. The rule runs per line, so a document can legitimately carry more than one treatment.

Where do HSN and SAC codes come from?

From the product or service record, so the code travels with the item rather than being typed on each quotation. Goods carry an HSN code, services a SAC. The code and the rate are stored on the line as it was issued, so reprinting a two-year-old quotation shows the rate that applied then, not today’s.

How is a zero-rated supply recorded?

With its reason. SEZ supplies and exports are zero-rated rather than exempt, and the document says which it is. A nil figure with no explanation is indistinguishable from a mistake, and the difference matters when someone reconciles the month.

What this does not do

Said plainly, because finding out after you have bought is worse.

Does SimplCRM file GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B?

No. SimplCRM is a CRM with a correct GST engine, not an accounting package or a return-filing utility. It gets the tax right on the document your salesperson sends, and hands the numbers to Tally, Zoho Books, or whatever your accountant uses, through export and the API.

Does it generate e-invoices and IRNs?

SimplCRM structures quotations with the fields e-invoicing requires — GSTIN, place of supply, HSN, taxable value and tax per line — so the handover to an IRP or your accounting software is a mapping rather than a re-entry. Registering the invoice and obtaining the IRN happens in your billing system.

Is it a replacement for a chartered accountant?

No, and no software is. It removes the arithmetic errors and the forgotten place-of-supply rule, which is where most of the corrections come from. What it hands your CA is consistent, which is worth more than what it saves them.

FAQ

Questions people ask

What is GST billing software?

GST billing software prepares sales documents that comply with India’s Goods and Services Tax: it records HSN or SAC codes per line, applies CGST and SGST for supplies within a state or IGST for supplies across states, shows the supplier’s GSTIN and the place of supply, and totals tax separately from the taxable value.

When is CGST and SGST charged instead of IGST?

CGST and SGST are charged when the supplier’s location and the place of supply are in the same state, split equally between the centre and the state. IGST is charged when they are in different states, or on imports. SimplCRM decides this per line from the branch making the supply and the customer’s ship-to address.

Does SimplCRM file GST returns?

No. SimplCRM prepares GST-correct quotations and hands the data to your accounting software or your chartered accountant through export and the API. Filing GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B stays where it belongs, with your accounts package and your CA.

Can one company invoice from more than one GSTIN?

Yes. Because GST registration is per state, a company operating in three states holds three GSTINs. Each branch in SimplCRM carries its own registration, and a quotation is issued under the registration of the branch making the supply rather than a single company-wide default.

How are SEZ and export supplies treated?

As zero-rated. A supply to a Special Economic Zone unit or an export out of India carries no CGST, SGST or IGST in the calculation, and the document records the reason rather than simply showing a nil rate that looks like an error.

Does SimplCRM handle rounding correctly?

Tax is calculated to the paisa in the database using exact decimal arithmetic, not floating-point. That is why the tax on a quotation, the tax in a report and the tax you hand your accountant are the same number, rather than three that differ by a rupee.
